What's your vision?
We need a new eBook cover for THE VAMPIRE'S APPRENTICE, by Richard Lee Byers. This is an older horror novel that had a terrible cover when first published. Here is the plot summary: Awakening to find himself embalmed and buried in his own grave, David Brent clawed his way to the surface to find himself transformed, a walking corpse, abandoned by his mentor, and tortured by relentless thirst . . . This is not what Carter, the charming vampire, had promised David before biting him. Where was Carter now . . . and who was going to teach David how to feed his insatiable hunger, use his new immortal powers, and stay out of harm's way? Abandoned and betrayed, dead to everyone he'd ever loved, David loathed and feared his savage new existence . . . But his rage would not let him perish. An inhabitant of the darkness, a bloodthirsty, nightstalking monster, David found his own way, teaching himself the answers to the ancient myths he was now heir to . . . and when he finally mastered his many powers, David went looking for Carter . . . The title of the work should appear as "The Vampire's Apprentice" but without the quotes around it, of course. Author's name is "Richard Lee Byers" (but no quotes around it). This is an "anti-vampire" novel. It does not romanticize it. Read the reviews on Amazon for inspiration: http://amzn.com/0821736329. Best would be a strong, central image, with title above and author name below. Also, please add the attached Heliosphere logo someplace on the top or bottom left. Thanks in advance for your work on this project!
We have run numerous successful contests on 99designs. We greatly appreciate having the time to comment and tweak. Please plan for that. We will guarantee this contest as soon as we have at least one entry we think will work. Keep in mind that these covers are mostly seen on Amazon and other sites at less than 2" tall. The title and author's name should be readable in the thumbnail size and the rest of the art should at least intrigue at that size. Small, detailed art will not work. Also, dark art or designs that look just like dark rectangles at the smaller size will not work. Clean fonts are best. Do not use "grubby" or "pocked" fonts. We publish to all eBook outlets, including Amazon, BN.Com, and iTunes. Therefore an .ai file that can be resized is helpful. If you can't provide in that format, then PSD with .jpg for each format is best. An excellent article to read is http://www.thebookdesigner.com/2011/10/e-book-cover-file-size-specifications/.
