Kate Nixon is one of Australia’s best designers with talents that span across interiors, styling, food and events. With over 17 years of experience, Kate embodies a unique mixture of excellence in design and charming personality which she wants to show through in her website. The interior design industry can be pretentious and stuffy, but she brings a rare element of likability to the table. Her design services are premium and appeal to a prestigious audience. Most of her clients fall into two categories: • 45-65 empty-nesters, affluent, Sydney residents, see value in premium • 30-50 without children, Sydney residents, enjoy travel and the finer things in life, social Her business is divided into three main channels: 1. Studio Kate (umbrella brand) -- Director of Studio Kate -- Interiors Editor of Australian House & Garden magazine -- Recognised for her expertise and thought leadership in design -- A practiced eye for timeless style has led to featured work in international and Australian titles with a focus on tailored, comfortable classics 2. Design by Studio Kate (interior design business) -- Offers bespoke complete interior design and decoration services -- Offers small ‘mini’ interior design jobs -- No job is too big or small 3. Casa by Studio Kate -- Brick and mortar store (doesn’t want e-commerce) -- Offers a range of one-of-a-kind, premium designs -- Only carries premium brands with interesting stories -- Offers custom made soft furnishings including curtains, blinds, bedding & upholstery -- Sells independently Uses in her own design services when appropriate -- Sells wholesale to other interior designers
The website should take careful consideration of the navigation/UX to visually convey that Studio Kate is the ‘umbrella brand’ and "Design by Studio Kate" and "Casa by Studio Kate" are related but separate sub-brands. They are all intertwined, but separate. The design should also consider that Kate would eventually like to add more ‘sub-brands’ (for example "Home by Studio Kate" for a boutique hotel). Designing the site to allow for these to be seamlessly added down the line would be ideal. Words that come to mind when describing the style of the website: premium, chic, clean, classic, quality, artistic, relatable, inviting, simple Colours: Neutral but no preference on light or dark Photography: The core of Kate’s business is design so photography should be a main focus of the website. Use imagery from the current Studio Kate website as placeholders. We can provide you with additional imagery if required. PAGE 1 -- MAIN STUDIO KATE HOMEPAGE: Should have two highlight sections at the top of the page showcasing the two sub-brands CASA and DESIGN that will have CTA to the sub-domain pages. These two main section/modules should have dynamic content that can be changed frequently by Kate and her team (maybe a slider w/ image + paragraph of text showing 'latest interiors from DESIGN by STUDIO KATE' and 'Unique Pieces from our Potts Point Store'). Underneath, we should have smaller sections that briefly touch on the following (all will have CTA linked to their own page). About, Awards & press, Contact, From the blog, Instagram widget. PAGE 2 -- SUBDOMAIN LANDING PAGE FOR "CASA by Studio Kate" store: This page will focus on the CASA store located in Potts Point, NSW. It will NOT be an ecommerce store, but rather will speak to all of the great things that can be found in the store. This page should have a section for the following: Featured brand, Featured collection, Made to order, Trade. Each section will have a CTA to learn more, which will link to its own page. (**Note the made to order section is about specialty made pillows and drapes; the trade section will speak to a program specifically selling to other interior designers in the business) PAGE 3 -- SUBDOMAIN LANDING PAGE FOR "DESIGN by Studio Kate" interior design business + portfolio: This page will focus on the DESIGN interior design business. This page should have a section for the following: Our Work, Why us, Services, FAQ. Each section will have a CTA to learn more, which will link to its own page.
What to avoid
No bright colours, not too much text (1-2 short paragraphs okay)
