otdw got their new web page design by running a design contest:
On The Dot Woman Needs a Website Refresh
Check out otdw's Web page design contest…
We are a woman's empowerment organization dedicated to enabling women all over the world to take the next step to achieve success by providing information and access to relatable role models.
We would like the website’s colors themes to center around the salmon pink color of our logo - #F69181. We would like to see more complementary colors (perhaps some cool blues, lavenders, or succulent greens?) that jive well with #F69181 The style would be high fashion with news content. We want women to be drawn by our high aesthetic but gain valuable knowledge for our content. We would like the layout to be conducive to this. We want there to be a place for different topics - Tech, Business, Entrepreneurship, Health + Wellness, Etc. We are really drawn to illustrations and so is our audience so maybe including elements of illustrations would be great! The overall theme should be women’s empowerment. We have some rough sketches that were created based on other sites that we draw similar inspiration from.
This page being designed would just be for our home landing page. We would like it to include our featured #WomanToWatch, our mission statement, our value proposition, our latest content (blogs, podcast, video), several calls to action to #JoinTheMovement (subscribe to our newsletter), sort archived content into easily accessible categories. We would also like for this site to be slightly more image heavy than text heavy. While we certainly want to let our visitors know what the content is, we would like them to linger on the site and really delve into the site rather than have to read too much text to understand what we are trying to do.
What to avoid
We would prefer to avoid dropdown menus. Instead opting for a sidebar if absolutely necessary. We are pretty open to most things at this stage in the game and would like to see what you have to offer. If we don’t like something, we will let you know.
