We are a photographer and a photo editor who want to help commercial photographers find new clients and shoot more original photography.
We have two target audiences:
Photographers are the first audience who will be creating profiles and uploading photographs to their individual portfolios.
We want the design to complement and highlight the photography.
On the homepage, this will entail a "featured photographers" section with samples of their photography, location and information about them including a small avatar.
The second audience are the clients: photo editors, art buyers, art directors and other people looking to hire photographers.
When they come to the site, they should be encouraged to browse through
the photographers’ profiles and portfolios, along with posting their photo shoot requirements.
Logo placement: We have a logo (attached) which should feature prominently on the page.
Main navigation: The two main areas of the site are "Photographers" and "Photo Shoots". These two links should be featured near the top of the page.
Other navigation: There should be an area for other, less important navigation, such as "Account", "Profile", "Log In/Log Out", etc.
Sign Up Links: We need two separate sign-up links, one for photographers and one for clients, each with some marketing copy.
Featured Photographers: This is where you can really get creative! We want to show off our photographers' work for prospective clients by putting them on the homepage. Each photographer should have a section of the page that includes their name and location, a few (6) sample photos from their portfolio, and a small avatar. Please feel free to suggest different ideas for displaying the sample photos (e.g. slideshow, zooming, etc.) We may put as many as 20 photographers on the homepage at a time.
Color: We are displaying photos, so we want to keep the colors neutral to avoid clashing. The one exception is the teal color in the logo, which can be used for visual accents.
Overall, we want the design to be clean, but also have some character. It should appeal to creatives and avoid looking too corporate.
