Need a Killer Design for Film and TV Recommendations Site

Curated Recommendations and Community for Streaming Movies & TV Series
We will integrate a robust recommendation engine with advanced search tools to help audiences discover quality steaming content. We recommend what to watch and help people find where to watch it.

The site is focused on film/tv discovery with an emphasis on personal recommendations and community interaction. From a design perspective, we are looking at common designs elements from movie/tv review and streaming sites like carousels and movie/film detail page with large hero graphic. We also want to incorporate features from social media sites like a user profile, followers, ratings and reviews. The site will focus around smart recommendations so it should have a personal feel.

We would like to have a clean, modern look that appeals to film/tv enthusiasts, but the primary focus should be on ease of discovery. For graphical elements, Movie/TV Series posters and banner images should be emphasized along with clear iconography for user interactions (add to watchlist, favorite, comment, etc).

Navigation should focus on search/discovery first and user features (my recommendations, watchlist, etc) second.

HOME PAGE
The home page should drop users directly into discovery. In terms of content, it should include different carousels or feature lists (horizontal or vertical) and include sections like My Watchlist, Recommendations and iGEMSelections. This page should play with different ways to highlight featured content with a combination of graphics and text, while also calling out some user interactions, like recent reviews or recommendations from users I am following. We will likely do "showcases" or lists of films or tv series with a theme. There are some examples on mubi:

SEARCH PAGE
This is the advanced search page. Discovery is a priority for our platform. Search should be intuitive and allow for deep customization when desired. Users should be able to access advanced search functionality by filtering on streaming platform, score, genre and "mood", defined by a list of emojis. We may also want to have different settings for display, as a list or graphic view.

PROFILE PAGE
Users should have a profile page that has a degree of customization. The profile page will highlight the user's interactions including reviews/recommendations, watchlist, favorites, etc.

This is not a site that is intended to sell a product, so don't use stock images or promotional copy. The focus should be on content discovery and community. You can use movie or tv posters from TMDb (https://www.themoviedb.org/) in your mockups.

The blue (rgb - 2574b2) in the iGems logo is our anchor color, but open to an accent color. Any use of Gems (without being corny) could work. Colors of stones could include: Aquamarine, Emerald, Ruby, Saphire, Topaz, Pearl.

The site should be built "mobile first" and be fully responsive so we would like to see at least two versions of each page that shows both the mobile and desktop view.
