Gchiao got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Lock & Hardware Manufacturer Website Design (Follow-Up Project Available)
Check out Gchiao's Web page design contest…
We are a Residential & Commercial Door Lock & Hardware manufacturer. Other than door locks, we also manufacture hardware such as door hinges and exit devices. We have 3 levels of product offerings: 1) Commercial - Reliable, lower cost, quality built 2) Designer - Unique, advance design, super high quality, higher priced 3) Custom - Customizable products Our primary target audiences are architects and distributor/dealers, and secondarily, the end-consumer who would use our products either in their residences or commercial properties. This is a WHOLESALE site and NOT an ONLINE RETAIL website. However, it will be transactional, meaning our dealers and wholesale customers can browse, look at prices and purchase after they have logged in.
"Colors" The current site, along with our catalog, uses primarily red and black. Our logo is silver and black. So we'd like red to remain "at least part" of the new design, however, if you can come up with other colors that will help us achieve the look and feel we are after, by all means do so. "Design Objective" We want to be able to clearly show visitors that we have THREE DIFFERENT LINES, and what each line is all about (See description section). Maybe this can be achieve by the creative and effective usage of stock photos which suitably represents each of our lines. Color coding the category and product pages for each different line may also be an option. "Design Style" Our primary customers are architects and engineers, fairly technical people, so we want to make sure the website appeals to them. But we also want our site to look modern and contemporary. We do not have a lot of existing stock photos, but if need be, we are willing to purchase some, depending on how you plan on using them in the design. Overall, I'd say we want our site to look like something you can find on Siteinspire.com under the Technology or Manufacturing section, but without going too far in the Web 2.0 direction, or is too heavily depending on full page or extremely large images. A good balance of cool and modern, and corporate/business-like is what we want.
1. Homepage - Include a main homepage sliding banner, welcome message, news, featured product categories or featured products, and a few other design elements which we will figure out before the design is finalized. 2. Category Page - This will be the page that lists all of the product categories. Each category should be represented by an image and have a short description. 3. Product Listing Page - This is the page that will be shown after you click into a category, and this page will list out all of the products in the category. This page should be designed so that it can be viewed in both "grid" and "list" view, along with all other common design elements that are current popular. Also need to design 2 states: a) General Public - no prices, Add to Cart or Checkout b) Dealers w/ Logins - Prices (MSRP & Sale), Add to Cart, Checkout
What to avoid
1. Outdated Design 2. Non-Responsive Design - We don't need the design to be "mobile responsive", however, we would like it to be responsive to different screen sizes and resolutions. (*this is if you plan on building the site using a FULL-WIDTH, INFINITE SCROLL, or Parallax design)
Hero Images & Banners We "may" provide our own stock photos at a later time, before the design is finalized. But for now, please find suitable stock images yourselves. As for the "verbiage" or "slogan" that usually will go onto the banner image(s), you can use Latin or just make up something for now. We will give you the actual slogans before we finalize the design.
