Ash Richardson needed a new web page design and created a contest on 99designs.
A winner was selected from 12 designs submitted by 6 freelance designers.
Nu-Steel Homes
Steel-framed custom designed homes for Australian consumer clients in the $250,000 to $1,000,000 budget range.
http://www.plantationhomes.com.au - use of photo slide show; rest of home page too messy
http://www.metricon.com.au - calls to action; clear navigation and calls to action for different user types
http://www.99designs.com - simplicity and use of video, at the user's option to view that video
http://edition.cnn.com/video/ - primary vs video vs 2nd/3rd level navigation; video centric with captions and duration (although the vertical scroll is lousy)
- youi.com.au - simplicity, with a clear centre call to action
New home page design for Nu-Steel Homes.
Our Home Page ideas
- company video (like 99designs.com)
- finished homes slide show
- house plans slide show
- some house videos to click on
- prominent logo
- HEADLINE: "Every element of what we do is driven by our passion to rethink the building industry ... from your perspective"
- "Placing you in control, we build superior quality custom luxury homes, without the luxury price tag"
- ignore our current home page design ... except keep the 8 primary navigations at the top, or a subtle representation of them that will blend with the remainder of the site as is. No need to keep the black border. Drop the four bottom boxes altogether and start with a clean canvas below that primary navigation or subtle variation thereof.
1st level/primary navigation and the rest of the site works well for us; although we will drop the page 'Why Nu-Steel' and we will make 'Builds in Progress' a separate page/primary nav.
Our clients are typically over 40yrs of age, building their dream home to live in long term. They are focused on custom design and product quality; we receive most of our inquiries on the Barcelona and Valencia designs, see http://nusteel.com.au/house-plans.aspx
