How estartup started their web page design journey

Summary

Read the brief for Updated Information. eReleases.com needs a face lift. We're tired of the old design and the old left-hand menu as well as the small width. Just psd is fine at this stage.

What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?

UPDATE:

I sat down today with my partner and a friend who is a artist/photographer. We looked at three designs that made the final cut. We thought they each offered something, but something was missing. There was no clear winner. My artist friend helped my partner and I understand what we were liking and responding to in each.
What we determined we liked was:
- use of space and rounded corners (but open to implied lines and spacing rather than put all content in bubbles)- Balanced Web 2.0, clean look. - Font usage. We really like the font spacing and usage of #179 (with a few issues pointed out below). - header and footer 100% pixel width (see #150)Comments for top contenders (any anyone else who wants in the game):
#156 - Everyone agreed your treatment of our logo was best. This is/was my personal favorite. kUTHUB has listened to every comment and has delivered all of my requests. All the necessary elements are there, including text for the top navigation and bottom navigation (as well as Copyright and Designated trademarks section). Something, however, is not right. kUTHUB had several background choices and we finally decided to ignore it as the background colors and gradient images can always be swapped out later. My partner said the overall design reminded him a wordpress template. My artist friend said the top navigation bar's color doesn't seem quite right, almost a bit of teal or aqua color in there that doesn't work well. Also, he said the contrast in the navigation bar's font isn't as sharp as #133, another top contender. Perhaps it is font choice or fact that the font is very thin. Also, the spacing of the green checks doesn't line up with the text properly. Regarding fonts, see comments on #179 below. The blue header seems a little stark. My partner feels we should add some text there as #150 has done. This may not be the final words that go up on the site but go ahead and add them:
We don't just send your press release.
We send you proof of distribution!
What we would also like to see (a test): We would like to see would be taking your blue header and making it go across the entire web page (100%). Also do the same thing with the bottom blue footer. See #150
Make the background all white and put some graytones in your white bubbles/curved boxes (so they contrast against white background). You might want to try implied lines and spacing, maybe even removing some bubbles and having text against white. See #150
Most important is font sizing, line height, kerning, spacing. With few exceptions, all of us liked the treatment of text font in #179 (with some exceptions noted below).
----
#133 - Everyone agreed that you had the nicest blue header. Your colors are more appealing. Your navigation font has a nice contrast (noted above) but we felt there wasn't much delineation between the tabs as you currently read across the dark blue. All the necessary elements are there, including text for the top navigation and bottom navigation (as well as Copyright and Designated trademarks section).
We would like to see much of the same as above, adding text to top header:
We don't just send your press release.

#150 - you brought in the new design style and we like it. We also liked how your header and footer can be adopted for 100% pixel width. Not as good handling spacing of the font as #179 but better than others here. Good design though.
I'm not a fan of the geometric design in header. My partner wasn't as bothered. Options? Also, possible to reduce height in header as it seems a little thick at top.
We're not fans of the Interview being in the middle. Realizing that Customer Reviews are more important to buyers, move them above Interview. Can we make the Interview thinner as well? Seem a little thick as well.
Check out #156 and #133 for text for bottom navigation and (as well as Copyright and Designated trademarks section)
Lastly, we're not sure about the color of the buttons (bright green). Like to see some options here.
---
#179 - Thanks for adding Exclusive Partner. We all agreed that we liked your body best. My artist friend helped us to realize it was your treatment of fonts that we were really digging as well as other elements. We also agreed that we didn't like the white band around the page as well as the dark blue band around lower half of webpage. That is when my friend suggested you remove both and get rid of background. No top margin.
