thomas.main got their new wordpress theme design by running a design contest:
Create website for podcast that says I know how to simplify and clarify

I am a law professor. I teach a subject that is a required course, and most law students hate it because the topics are technical, complicated, counterintuitive, and unsexy. My podcast simplifies the subject and helps students understand why it's important and interesting. About 75% of the episodes are lecture/tutuorials; the others are interviews with lawyers and judges to bring real-world perspective to those topics. The website is only about organizing the catalogue of episodes. The episodes are evergreen and new visitors to the webpage need to be able to sort the episodes by category, type, subject-matter, etc. That navigation/sort feature is key. This website is not about selling anything. I need an interesting landing page, a sort/browse page, and a contact-me page; I think that's it.
The subject of civil procedure is a very technical subject--it's about rules and about system design. Accordingly, I'm drawn to thematic concepts that are architectural or maps or puzzles or skeletal or other system-like things. (I love subway maps and architectural blueprints, for example.) And it is absolutely essential that the interface for navigating the episodes reflects the whole point of my podcast, which is to make something that is technical/complex intuitive and straightforward and easy-to-navigate. I have a logo, which I love. (Thanks Ricky @ 99 designs)
Landing page, Sort/Browse page (which probably is the same as the landing page--because that's the whole purpose of the site), and a Contact-me page.
Website needs to work well on phone or on pc.

I had ideas but needed guidance. In the design stage of my contest he was already reading my mind when many other designers seemed not to have read my proposal/brief. Such a great listener. Such a pro. Highly highly recommended!!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
